Staying Fit Over 60: How I Train, Eat and Still Enjoy Life
At 61, I still train six days a week, stay lean, and enjoy my weekends. Here’s how I balance weights, running and real life — and how you can too.

Staying fit over 60 isn’t about chasing perfection — it’s about consistency, strength, and enjoying the life you’ve worked hard for.
I’ve been training for decades, and at 61 I still feel strong, energetic and motivated. My approach isn’t extreme — it’s practical, balanced, and it works.
How I Train
I train with weights three times a week, 45 minutes a session. That’s all you need when you train with focus. Strength training keeps your metabolism high, protects your joints and bones, and helps maintain muscle — something we naturally lose with age.
On the days between my gym sessions, I run three times a week for around 45 minutes. Running keeps my heart strong, clears my head, and balances out the weight training perfectly.
It’s not about long, punishing sessions. It’s about routine, discipline, and training smart.
How I Eat (and still enjoy food & drink)
From Monday to Friday, I keep things simple and clean. I watch what I eat and drink, keeping my calories in check and prioritising protein, whole foods, and hydration.
But from 6pm Saturday to 6pm Sunday, I switch off. No tracking, no rules — I eat and drink what I like. That “free zone” keeps life enjoyable and sustainable. There’s no guilt, just balance.
Why it Works
Because it’s realistic. You don’t have to give up everything you enjoy to stay fit at 60+. You just need structure during the week, activity you enjoy, and consistency over time.
